We begin the book club with “No More Perfect Moms” by Jill Savage. You can join us by getting the book with the following link. Full disclosure, we get a little kick back from every purchase that uses this link -> HERE.
This book was chosen because “No More Perfect Marriages” was on my list of books to read for a long time. Then, this appeared as a suggestion and hit it too close to home to disregard.
At the time of this post, the book is free with an Audible subscription until 10/30/24.
Following I will share the main ideas from each Chapter 1. I would love if you follow along and share your own takes on this Chapter.
Chapter 1 – The Perfection Infection
The main point I appreciate from this book is how relatable it is. It pulls you back to earth, saying that nobody is perfect. You don’t need to pretend you are perfect also. Parenthood NEVER goes as planned. This applies for both, men and women. Moms and I’d dare to say here, PARENTS, keep appearances all the time, they do not share what’s inside.
Masks. Keeping a mask all the time, like Jill explains, brings judgement. Judgement to others and ourselves. Being fake needs to be starting to be put away. Relating to others is the best way to support each other. She then goes to some extents on criticizing photography, which made me feel attacked. Just kidding. The comparison goes to compare the retouching in magazines and try to portrait everything as perfect, which is not.
In contrast, we should always remember, hindsight is always 20/20. Blaming ourselves or each other for what could have been better, isn’t healthy. This is something I had fallen victim of plenty of times. We need to remember, good moments happen sporadically. Nothing will be perfect. Most importantly, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Let me know your thoughts,
Denny
